1. Breakfast at Toh Soon Cafe
2. Upside Down Museum
3. Dinner at New Lane Food Stalls
4. Supper at Jelutong Night Market
5. Breakfast at Aik Hoe Dim Sum
We actually completely forgotten about this "must-eat" food at the alley of Georgetown. We were walking along one of the morning market, and spotted alot of people queuing up at the cafe. Immediately, MamaTan recalled this cafe, and we joined in the queue for our breakfast. Despite having a queue, we walked barely 5 minutes and we have gotten ourselves a table. The best parts of this cafe are their coffee and charcoal toasted bread set. Seriously, their coffee and bread set were the best that we tasted in Penang. We would strongly recommended you guys to visit this cafe!
Back track abit, prior to reaching the cafe, we dropped by a famous shop hoping to buy the famous popiah. However, they only roll popiah on spot on certain days only, in which our day 3 wasn't the day. So instead, we bought some snacks and proceeded on!
Next, we went to the upside down museum which we missed it from our day 1. Morris was sleeping already when we reached the museum, and i believe that he would regret falling asleep during the nice museum tour. The museum was air-conditioned (thank god) and upon purchasing of tickets, we proceeded to the holding area and waited for our number to be flashed out. It took us about 10 minutes before we went into the museum.
At every station of the museum, there were assistants present to guide you to do the stunts, as well as to take the photo for you. When you went in, please respect the people in front of you, do not block them from taking the photo. This will only slow down the progress. And please listen to the assistant, their proposals are normally the best. In the end, the only memories that we brought back were the numerous photos that we took, as well as a selected photo to be printed on a shirt for morris.
Decided to pick this New Lane Food Stalls as our dinner place. Its a food alley alike, whereby the street would be closed and vendors will start to push their cart out and start selling the local foods. We bought kinda of alot of various types of food here, but we really felt the food quality here are kinda low. There was nothing worth mentioning here!
There is a daily night market at different locations. We picked Jelutong Night Market as it was mentioned that this is the largest one of all the 5 days night market. And actually, the items sold, and even the people are the same in all the 5 night markets. That's why we picked the biggest one and go. The drive there was smooth, but the parking was really horrible. There was no parking lot available, and there were too many people there, making driving difficult. And the area is one-way, i.e. once you cannot find any lot, you have to make a big detour and start looking for lots again. In the end, we were luckily that one of the cars was leaving and we took over his lot. The lot was already at the end of the night market, which made our visiting easier, from one end to another.
The food and items here were nothing much. We quickly scanned through the place, only buying 2 things: Tou Hway Drink and Oyster Egg. The oyster egg was good, probably the best that we had in Penang. We took about an hour and we were back at the car.
This is a famous dim sum cafe, which is quite crowded in the morning. We caught a quick bite before we departed the airport. This is a "suay" morning as initially, i thought i had a good lot near that cafe. Didn't realise that the lot was not longer in used, and there was double white line printed on the lot inside on the passenger side. So we happily parked there, and then when PapaTan came back to retrieve the car, my car was wheel locked. PapaTan had to call the "LTA" to ask them to come and unlock the lock. We were kinda of running late at that moments, and the "LTA" took about 20 minutes to come.
Then we reached the airport, we just managed to check in our baggage on time, and managed to verify our duty free items. Initially, the custom officer wants to verify our items but papaTan told him that we have already checked in all the purchased items. After some persuading, the custom officer reluctantly chopped on the tax refund verification paper and we would need to go into airport departure area to claim the tax refund.
We thought that everything was running well, then the check in the departure hall was super long queue. Our flight was flying off in 30 minutes and we were stuck at the queue for 1.5hours. Yeah, the air plane took off without us, and AirAsia put us onto the next flight. We need to wait for about 3 hours in the departure hall for the next flight.
This series of unfortunate events ended our Penang Trip with a blast!
