1. Breakfast - Sisters' Curry Mee
2. Kok Lei Si Temple
3. Penang Hill
4. Dinner - Goh Huat Seng Traditional Teochew Charcoal Steamboat
Woke up kinda of early, to travel to Kok Lei Si Temple vicinity to catch a look at the early morning market, and to eat the famous Sisters' Curry Mee. The journey there was smooth, but the traffic at the market there was rather bad. Parking was hard as well, had to park about 500m from the curry mee, at the private housing area.
The curry mee is located by the road side with a big banner showing the two sisters. Beside curry mee, they also sell economic beehoon, but without much ingredients one. I think they have collaboration with a kopitiam, so that patrons can actually buy the curry mee and then sit at the kopitiam. All you have to do is to order some drinks from them. The curry mee imho was normal as we prefer those thick thick gravy type of curry mee. But nonetheless, worth a try if you are going to Kok Lei Si Temple as they are kinda near.
After breakfast, i attempted to find the famous ayam laksa but to no avail. I walked to the point that the GPS guided me to, but there was only one ayam laksa store at the hawker but there was no queue. I believed that it was not the store that i were looking for, but i bought one packet to try, in case it was really that store. The ayam laksa was bad and not worth mentioning, =(
Then we made our way to Kok Lei Si Temple. The drive there was very near, and if you don't know the way, there are signboards along the way to guide you to the temple. You choose to park at the bottom (large parking area where all the coaches will park), or you can choose to drive up all the way to the top (just below the big kwan yin statue). We took the latter option, as we did not want to brave through the hot weather and climb upwards. The way to the top can look doubtful, but trust me, just keep driving and you will reach a carpark just below the statue. You will have to pay a parking fee of 2RM (if my memory didn't fail me) and then there you are, below the statue.
The area there only has the statue and then a pavilion in the middle of the lake. Other than that, nothing much.
Next, we made our way to the Penang Hill, which was located around 3-4km from the Kok Lei Si Temple. The route there isn't hard to find as well, all the main big roads and signages along the way. There is a big multi storey carpark located just beside the Penang Hill Station.
The highlight here is that you need to sit the tram, i believe travelling at a 45 degree slope. This is akin to the Hong Kong Peak's tram. Since we went during the off-peak period, there was minimal queue for the tickets, and also to sit the tram. To the tickets, we took about 3 mins to purchase, and maybe a 20 minutes to get a seat in the tram.
The attractions available there are (1) Owl Museum [we didn't go as we were not interested in owl], (2) The love locks gallery [There's a fake one that you have to pay, so beware], and (3) Viewing gallery which is located just beside the hilltop station. I think there are more attractions there, but you will need to walk and we didn't choose to.
Was reading up for dinner recommendation around the upside down museum, and saw this local recommendation of the traditional charcoal steamboat and decided to give it a try. The portion was acceptable and the freshness of the food is really good. It used charcoal in the centre to heat up the steamboat. There seems to be little tourists there so must be a local delights. We ordered the set meal for 2-3 pax, which i can't remember how much it costs.
