Overall Itinerary:
Day 1 - Singapore to Taoyuan Airport to TaichungFinally, our annual big trip is here now. Our 10 days of magically holiday, with morris and grandmaKwan, starts today! Nearly overslept, woke up at 0430hrs, and rushed to take cab to grandmaKwan's place to pick her up. Then, we rushed to the airport, and we were the last few to check in. The good thing was that, there was no queue. We reached the airport, and immediately checked in, deposited our luggages and even had time for breakfast after we went into the departure hall. The flight to Taiwan was really bad this time round. Although Morris gave us peace for the first 2-3 hours by sleeping through, the landing was harsh, with alot of up, down, left and right jerking. It made all of us felt giddy. It was really a relief to be able to step out of the plane. First thing out of the plane, was definitely to buy the mobile sim card for data connection. Bought the 10 days package for 500NT. Not very expensive, it's only 20+SGD for 10 days, it's an average of 2SGD a day! We just randomly picked one of the vendors, i pretty much guessed they were about the same. Passed the arrival gate, collected our luggages, and we were welcomed by our driver for the next 5 days. She is Xiao Ya (小雅), a popular driver that stays in Taichung. She will be taking us through for the next 5 days. Her service costed us about 5000NT a day, with a Toyota Wish. The good thing about her is that, (1) female driver, easier for us to breast feed Morris on the go; and (2) she provides baby porridge during our stays in Taichung. Throughout the journey, we personally felt that she is really really a busy business woman. She was always busy on the phone, texting and calculating stuff, sometimes when the vehicle stopped, or whenever she dropped us at an attraction. Pros and Cons, you will have to weigh it yourselves =). She fetched us using another hired vehicle, as she mentioned that her cab cannot come to pick up passengers. So, she had to hire another vehicle to pick us up, then dropped us off at another carpark. From there, here to start our journey. First stop from the Airport, we were recommended by Xiao Ya to 新竹 to try the famous 新竹米粉 at this famous 大拇指小馆. We ordered the famous meat ball, bee hoon, 小炒, deep fried salted toufu and one more dish which i can't remember. The food was great over here, specially the meat ball, beehoon and that deep fried salted toufu. Definitely not a tourist trap! P.S. Pardon my blur photo. GoPro does not seem to take good marco photo. Or rather, i need to learn to use it better, for close up shot. Straight after our lunch, we headed to 新社觀光花海節. This festive is only for 1-2 weeks and from the month of Nov to Dec only. Just nice our trip this year falls within the period. So we took this opportunity to visit this festive. It's a flower exhibition, with really, alot of flowers. The weather was cooling, at about 15-16 degree. After the festive, we went to the nearby 菇神餐廳 for our dinner. The steamboat was good, with free flow of tea. I guess this is a hot spot for tourist as driver gets their "driver's meal". But it also looked like there were alot of locals as well and the food tasted not bad. So, give it to them lah. An overall good meal! Next, we proceeded to the hotel and then 逢甲夜市. The photos i will upload later, as i don't have it in my GoPro! Stay tuned.
