Just received the matenity shoot i have taken with my fellow mommies friends. Thinking that time flies especially when the precious one is already out of me. No more hiccups and kicking mamaTan and now, i feel we are closer. We are closer because i get to see you, kiss you and feel you, Morris. Although you may be really cranky at times, mamaTan loves you!

Proud to be breastfeeding this little terror of mine as i see him getting big and healthy each day! Today i have managed to clear another task by helping you to cut your finger nails. We have decided to let you go mitten free and first step is to ensure that your nails are short and not sharp. Let's hope the mitten free day will not make you into a mickey meow!
Heard from a lot of mommies that they are facing problem cutting the nails for the precious. Suggest to try to cut it when they are asleep. This is the moment where they are relaxed and nua nua, ready for you to cut their nails. Hope it is useful! :) It is said that breast milk supply is extremely important to establish during the 1st month of post delivery. Therefore, we are encouraged to latch on baby as and when needed. Should we wish to boost the supply, we can also add in pump sessions about 1 hour after latching.
And yes, this is my life for the past 2 weeks. Totally working on a scheduled routine with pumping every 3-hourly and latching as and when needed. This routine is applicable over wee hours and technically starts at 1am, 4am, 7am, 10am, 1pm, 3pm, 6pm, 9pm. In order to increase supply, we have to take in plenty of fluid to ensure that we have sufficient to generate into breast milk. Personally i feel that having Milo with brewer's yeast and cereal after every feed helps to regain energy and also boost milk supply a little more. Do note that some may not like the taste of oat milk though but i feel that Oat milk is also one of the must-drink beverage to increase supply. Adding on, did a research on Kellymom and found the following article, quoted the most important part: “Some little tips to help increase your supply if you really need it. It’s nice to have these on hand just in case: First drink plenty of water. I don’t drink a ton but I make sure to stay hydrated. Check your pee when you go (I know, sounds funny!). If it is light yellow to clear, you are plenty hydrated. Make sure you eat! While you are pumping, you will keep the weight off, I promise! It can make you hungry as a horse and it does that for a reason. You need the extra calories because you are burning so much off! When I didn’t eat enough, I would get really light headed and feel like I was going to drop my baby…not good! Eventually, your hunger should taper off (mine has). Eat REAL oatmeal, not the instant. You can eat the quick oats (the ones that cook in 1 minute) or the old fashioned oats (that cook in 5 minutes). You can also make cookies that have oatmeal in them and get oatmeal that way (I prefer this way! Ha!). The way they process the instant oatmeal, it doesn’t give you the same results. No one is sure how the oatmeal works but it does! Get some rest (yeah, I know easier said than done!) If you are exhausted and have the opportunity to take a nap (even if it pushes your pump back) do it! You will actually get more milk that way! Even if you’re not sleeping, rest by sitting down a lot. Conserving energy is important. Don’t stress too much. This all depends on how you personally handle stress. I tend to be a thinker, so I think things out a lot. It has to be some MAJOR stressful situation for it to hurt my supply. Some suggest drinking dark beer, with or without alcohol. Some say it’s the barley in it or something, that helps to increase supply. Plus some women just swear by the relaxation it gives them! You can have 1 or 2 beers without much crossing into your milk. (Note: Most breastfeeding experts do not routinely recommend using alcohol to boost milk supply. More on alcohol and breastfeeding here.) There is a tea called Mothers Milk Tea and it is supposed to increase your supply if you drink it. There are herbs like Fenugreek and also prescription medications that will increase your supply if you really need it. I would use these as a last resort but they can be effective and are available! Most importantly, good pumping habits will keep your supply up and increase it!” JIAYOU!!! It has been 2 weeks since your birth. With images flashing back that you were in my stomach for the past 9 months|3 weeks|4 days. The feeling of having you by my side is overwhelming in comparison to you whom was in me back then. Past 2 weeks has been a learning journey for papaTan and myself where we firstly need to adapt to “+1” and in additional, your unpredictable patterns of life behaviors. We have been on the field training with hands-on experiencing on changing numerous diapers, feeding you with milk and seeing your satisfaction face upon feeling full. Morris, you are just so full of expression which always surprises us. Be it your slightest smile, it brings joy to our life. Part of the learning journey comprises the high usage of diapers and the open air leakage. Within a short period of 2 weeks, we have actually tried the majority diaper brands and decided to stick to the ones we shortlisted despite it is more expensive. We believe that these additional cents spend on your butt in exchange for better absorption and ensure that you gets zero nappy rash and sleeps better.

We love you Morris. :) Brought Baby Morris for newborn photo-shoot session with Dphotofolio during his day 10. Have been on a constant look-out for a good newborn photographer since pregnancy and Dphotofolio is one of the shortlisted photographer. Love the way he portrait newborn shoot in a way that is back to nature with minimal props and main focus on the precious baby.
Newborn babies often display the most angelic and downright adorable faces, making newborn photography shoots a delight. It is also one of the hardest photo-shoot since newborn do not know how to pose themselves. At each newborn photography session, they take the extra time to coax the baby to ensure that he/she is soundly asleep before posing them and dressing them in props. The main photographer, Alvin is very professional and experience in this area.

Earlier on we have approached Jing Zi Long for babyTan's name selection since papaTan's brother has approached the same Fengshui master for name selection. He is charging at a reasonable rate of $88 with a waiting time of about 3 working days. They will be providing a total of 20 Chinese characters of a certain number of strokes for your child's name selection. This list is also generated basis the following:
Personally i feel that the characters given are very strong and traditional like and many of the characters were not even suitable for names selection. Just tell me who will use 劲 as a character for name selection? Anyway, we really love the word 彦 and definitely love the meaning of the word more. It means a person of virtue and ability. We hope that is how our babyTan will be in future when he grows up. :) After some discussion, we decided to call babyTan the following name : Tan Yan Yu Morris (陈彦宇).
Dr. Ong was recommended by Uncle Tham as babyTan's Pediatrician Doctor (PD) since we are staying in Geylang Bahru area which is relatively near to the clinic in United Square. Still recalling on the first day after delivery, Dr. Ong came by the ward at 8pm in Ah Pek polo-tee with berms and slippers to inform us that our precious is healthy and everything is alright upon birth. He will also pop by again the next day to check on baby's jaundice level.
This leaves a really good impression to both of us as we feel he is very down-to-earth, extremely friendly PD and definitely one who is very fatherly. He gave us the same feeling Uncle Tham gave us and we feel comfortable to have our son in his good hands. We were blessed that BabyTan's jaundice level is relatively low at 7.2 and he is safe to discharge from hospital on day 3 together with us. We were also informed by Dr. Ong to sun our precious from 7-9am or 6-7pm. Simply just put him near to a window which has direct sunlight or bring him down for a walk. We were also told to remember to cover his eyes as newborn's eyes are very sensitive while sunbathing him. Brought BabyTan to Dr. Ong's clinic today to review on his jaundice level. Poor boy needs to be prick to withdraw blood specimens for testing of Jaundice. We were told that readings will be ready in 2 hours and babyTan needs to be below reading of 14 in order to be safe from admission back to TMC for Photo-therapist session. We were so worried that he might fall out of the given range but thank god he was being tested as 10.2 only. We were told to continue to sunbathing him as and when possible to ensure that the jaundice level will not increase. Sidenote, Dr. Ong apparently is the only PD available in the clinic and he is also the first doctor that i have seen who will walk out from his room to call upon patients and actually open & close his room's door for his patients. We love him a lot for his care and concerns for our precious. This definitely comes with a price tag as we felt his short consultation fee of $80 is a hefty sum though. But nevertheless, we were glad that babyTan is safe from Jaundice. :) As we were given of the footprint casting complimentary by TMC, we decided to also purchase the Life casting of the babyTan. There is a promotion for $288 for a $488 package and we felt pretty worth it. Comes with a free photoshoot, a frame and the casting of both hands and feet.
In order to do this, we have to bring our precious down to the lobby of TMC, some powder was mixed instantly and within we insert both the hands and feet into powdery substance. We were also told not to worry by the counter staff that this is safe and gentle to baby's skin. Within seconds, it will solidify and the shape is formed. Through this, we manage to pen down his 3 day old newborn hands and feet into an exquisite mementos. In the wee hours, i realized that there was some sort of back and spine aching pain which repeated for a couple of times till i woke up to prepare to head to Thomson Medical Centre for the weekly appointment with Uncle Tham. Decided to pen down the pain duration as well as frequency just in case that it is for real this time round. I recalled, it occurs every 5 minutes. As i head to bath, i found out that i have "show" symptoms where i was having severe bloody discharge that resembles menses discharge. Quickly bathed and woke PapaTan up to prepare for the hospital. And before that, we headed downstairs for the beehoon breakfast. We were once told that bathing / shampooing of hair and eating the meal are two of the must-do activities before proceeding for delivery. haha! Nurse came into the observation room and done a check for me as she informed me that i was 2+ cm dilated and we awaited for Uncle's Tham's arrival to assess the situation. He came by and checked that i was 3 cm dilated and discussed with us to deliver today since i was already having massive blood discharge. At the same time, papaTan loves 01.11.14 date so we decided might as well. The breaking of waterbag process was so quick that i did not even noticed it and next moment, uncle Tham told me that "done" and i feel water leaking from my down below. I was subsequently being wheeled to the delivery ward awaiting for dilation and labor. Glad that papaTan agrees with me to inject epidural as the pain is seriously unbearable where it contracts for about 30 seconds in every 5 minutes. The rest of the waiting process was like heaven for me as i only feel numbness from waist below. No pain, no ache and definitely no stress while waiting. We still gets to enjoy the HBO channel and laughing out loud while being in the ward. I am blessed to have dilated from 4 cm to 8 cm within an hour and subsequently ready and waiting for delivery. Understand from the staff nurse that Uncle Tham loves the baby head to be really low before calling him to come by for delivery. So throughout the 30 minutes of pushing, it is staff nurses and us, fighting hard to have babyTan push out. The whole process was pretty intense as i could only hear papaTan's voice.
He goes like saying "PUSHHHHH" and start counting "1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10, good job!" Every contraction comes by, i held my breathe and started pushing for at least 3-4 sets of 10 seconds push. From what i recalled, i have had at least 10 contractions which easily means about 30-40 sets of 10 seconds push. Though there is epidural, i could still feel pressurized intensity especially when baby is going through the canal. A negative point about epidural is that it numbs your lower body and you may have a hard time identifying if the push is accurate and whether you are pushing hard enough. I am glad to be allocated an interesting staff nurse for my delivery as she has let me experience something that i believe, i will never get to feel it again (unless i am trying for #2 and it is her again). She took the mirror out from the drawer, placed it right in front of me, showing me my virginal and telling me that the reddish part with a bush of hair, is my son's head. She actually took my hand over and touch the head of my son. Telling me that i am almost there. @_@ And yes, i am serious at this part. Finally when uncle Tham came in, the whole labor process expedite itself as i managed to push our precious out within minutes. BabyTan was so precious and his wailing is so loud and clear. Adding on with the look from papaTan which stamp in my heart, i know it is all worth it. :) |
